The Future Leaders Institute (FLI) is an experiential learning opportunity for high school youth that is person-centered, and includes: career exploration, academic skills enhancement, and a service learning opportunity. Organized in 2005, the mission of FLI is to provide leadership development opportunities for at-risk youth. 

 

In 2007, the first annual Future Leaders Leadership Retreat was held to foster leadership skills, career development, and career exploration for high school students in Durham and Edgecombe County, NC in a weekend retreat format. This program was initially offered to students who were high school seniors and/or those who were elected as officers in the Student Leadership Council for The Renaissance Education Group, Inc. (our parent organization).  To expand service offerings and the leadership development opporutnities made readily available to youth, FLI was incorporated by the State of North Carolina on November 2, 2009 and officially became The Future Leaders Institute, Inc.
